Follow Up Care & Dietary Support
Our exceptional team is dedicated to supporting your recovery and healing journey. We’ve carefully designed your post-operative care and follow-up schedule to ensure you return to your daily activities safely and effectively.
Your Care After Surgery
What to expect in your first days of recovery:
Upon your discharge from hospital a responsible adult must be able to pick you up and accompany you home. We strongly suggest that someone is to remain with you for the first 24 hours at home. You will be provided with pain medication to help you settle and recover.
You will have waterproof dressing’s covering your incision sites, for up to 7 days. During this time you are able to shower daily with the dressings. If the dressing has started to peel within the 7 day period, remove the dressing completely and allow the area to completely dry. Once dried, replace with a new sterile dressing. After 7 days remove your dressings and leave the skin tape in place over your incision. You will also have glue residue around the area, this will fall off naturally over the following weeks. Avoid soaping the area until the glue has fallen off and pat gently to dry.
A follow-up appointment will be scheduled 2 weeks after your surgery with Dr Puhalla to ensure you are recovering well. If you have concerns or questions while recovering at home, please reach out via phone or email.
For patients who undergo a bariatric procedure the importance of your 3 monthly follow up’s are essential to helping you in your journey. For the first year you will have scheduled appointments with Dr Puhalla to ensure you are on track to achieving your goals.
