Weight Loss Medications
While surgery can be a powerful tool for some, we recognise that permanent options may not be the preferred choice for everyone. We offer a comprehensive medical weight loss program using modern GLP-1 receptor agonist medications.
These medications are an innovative and effective approach to weight loss. GLP-1 medications imitate a naturally occurring hormone within your body, which helps to regulate appetite, improve metabolism, and support weight loss. They are typically administered as a once-weekly injection and should be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and lifestyle.
Overall, it is important to be able to discuss all options of weight loss (surgical or medical) with an experienced team that explains short- and long-term implications of the different approaches to help you to achieve your goals.
What are the key Benefits to Medical Weight Loss Injections?
Am I a candidate for medical weight loss?
Dr Puhalla will discuss whether you are a candidate during your initial consultation. Guidelines state you are eligible for weight loss medications if your BMI is >30, or >27 with at least one weight related condition such as high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, or type 2 diabetes. It is not recommended to use medical weight loss if you have issues with your pancreas or kidneys, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you are unsure of your Body Mass Index (BMI) use our calculator.
What is included within the program?

Frequently Asked Questions
Haven’t answered all your inquiries? Below are some frequently asked questions that may provide you with the information you are looking for. If we haven’t answered your query or concerns please contact our friendly team at (07) 5667 9766 or via email at admin@weightlossoperation.com.au.
How much weight can I expect to lose?
The expected weight loss varies in between gender and age groups but of course depends on the starting BMI. With the highest dose of Mounjaro (15mg) up to 20% of the total body weight after long term treatment and continuous medication use.
Do I have to use your dietician?
Input from our dietician is strongly encouraged while using medical weight loss to ensure you have adequate nutrition while using medications and to optimise potential results. The costs of dietician appointment are included in the package price.
What if I don’t lose any weight after 3 months?
Although effective for many patients, not every patient achieves the desired results. This can be due to ineffectiveness of a medication, or from needing to cease the medication due to unwanted side effects. We would encourage you to schedule a follow up appointment with Dr Puhalla to discuss other weight loss options, for example a different type of medication or a weight loss procedure.
Do I get any medicare/private health fund rebates?
Unfortunately Medicare does not cover weight loss injections. Check with your private health fund whether you may be eligible to receive some reimbursement for weight loss injections depending on your level of cover.
