Open Surgery
Open surgery is the traditional way of operating, where the surgeon makes a larger cut to fully see and directly handle the hernia or diseased organ with their hands and instruments. This gives a wide, clear view inside the body and allows the surgeon to deal with very complex or unexpected problems.
Benefits
Very complex operations where the surgeon needs maximum access and flexibility (for example big cancer operations).
Emergency or trauma cases (like serious internal bleeding) where the team must act quickly and see everything clearly.
When there is lots of scar tissue from previous operations, making keyhole or robotic surgery difficult or unsafe.
When minimally invasive options aren’t suitable for medical or anatomical reasons, based on the patient’s condition.
Some open operations can be performed with only small incisions ( e.g. umbilical hernias)
